Philippine Ambassador Praises Cambodia's Progress and Achievements

Phnom Penh: The Ambassador of the Philippines to Cambodia, Maria Amelita C. Aquino, commended the Royal Government of Cambodia's success in various areas during a courtesy call on Prime Minister Hun Manet.

Ambassador Aquino specifically highlighted the Royal Government's effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing its successful containment measures and inclusive vaccination campaign that extended to foreigners living and working in Cambodia, free of charge and without discrimination. This approach not only demonstrated Cambodia’s commitment to public health but also showcased its solidarity with the international community during a global crisis.

Moreover, Aquino praised Cambodia for its successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit and related meetings alongside the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games. She underscored Cambodia's pivotal role in international peacekeeping, noting its significant contributions to United Nations-led missions—a testament to the nation's dedication to global peace and security.

The Ambassador also highlighted the fruits of her diplomatic tenure, pointing to the deepened cooperation between the Philippines and Cambodia, particularly in trade, with notable increases in rice exports from Cambodia to the Philippines. The enhancement of people-to-people ties, demining efforts, tourism, and defense cooperation were among other achievements she lauded, emphasizing the multifaceted relationship that has developed between the two nations.

Responding to the Ambassador’s remarks, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed appreciation for her role in bolstering bilateral relations and encouraged further engagement between the private sectors and business communities of both countries. He voiced optimism for expanded tourism links, spurred by discussions for increased direct flights, which would serve as a bridge between the peoples of the two nations. The Prime Minister also expressed a desire for enhanced defense cooperation through shared experiences and training programs, highlighting the potential for growth in military-to-military relations.

This meeting underscored the strong diplomatic and cooperative ties between Cambodia and the Philippines, showcasing a mutual commitment to advancing peace, prosperity, and development within the region and beyond.
